what are the disadvantages of buying an OEM copy of Windows xp?

I want to reformatt my pc and my laptop and reinstall windows xp on both, i am looking online to buy windows but i can seem to only find OEM copys, what are they? and are they different than the retail box copy of windows xp?

What Toshiba laptops are preinstalled with windows XP?

I need to buy a new Toshiba laptop, that is pre-installed with Windows XP. However, the Australian site/retailer isn’t very helpful with their search engine.
What I need at the very least on the laptop are:
3+GB RAM: I’d prefer 4GB.

Can I put a used Dell laptop hard drive with Windows on a Toshiba Laptop?

Have a Toshiba Satellite laptop that needs a hard drive and memory. Someone has a hard drive (with the windows os on it) from a Dell laptop they said they would sell to me. A pc tech said they would not recommend that. Has anyone done the same, or – knowledgeable in this field?
