I somehow broke my lcd screen in my laptop, and I would like to find the most cost efficient way to repair it. I think I should be able to replace the part myself, but I would like to find the part for under $200. Please help me!

Throw it away and start over! HP’s are junk, and they wont stand behind and warranty their own products! I have 2 HP laptops – both under warranty, and I will never buy another!! I’m switching to Dell!! They not only stand behind their warranty – they’ll come to your house to fix it!!
(I do however like their all in one printers though!!)
Ok…
The dv9000 screen is gonna cost you around $200 – $300 depending. It will take the novice about 30min – 1 hour. Its not really THAT hard but you have to be careful to watch out for the left hinge as they are famous for breaking.
Heres what you need. 1 regular Phillips screw driver, 1 very small Phillips, and a pair of needlenose pliers.
remove the face plate from the lcd.
There should be a series of screws holding the backing onto the bottom where the hinges are.
Remove these taking care to watch for the antennea wires when your taking the backing down. DONT TAKE THE BACK ALL THE WAY OFF SINCE THE ANTENNEA IS STILL ATTATCHED.
Remove the LCD inverter… be careful if its powered you can get a shock. (BTW its the board on the bottom)
Remove the LCD cable from the top and back of the LCD. It should be taped on above the slot where it plugs in.
Remove the 2 screws from each of the sides. These are very small, and hold on the LCD panel to the rest of the computer.
Remove LCD.
Reverse for install. Make sure that the LCD cable is installed securly any bit of space in there can make your new LCD whigg out.
Take your time and Good luck.
you need to browse the website with the part number and the specifications of the lcd and get the right one.
